Basic english {I used to + (verb)}

I used to + (verb)
Used to' expresses something that was done in the past, and is not usually done now.

Here are some examples:
"I used to develop websites."
"I used to jog every day."
"I used to paint."
"I used to smoke."
"I used to work from home."
"I used to live in California."
"I used to go to the beach every day."
"I used to sing in a choir."
"I used to like vegetables."
"I used to start work at 6 o'clock."

Basic english {I have + (past participle)}

I have + (past participle)

Again, 'I have' shows possession or something acquired. By adding a past participle you are informing someone of a past or completed action done by you.

Here are some examples:
"I have done it."
"I have heard that before."
"I have driven a car."
"I have forgotten the words."
"I have read that book."
"I have eaten at that restaurant before."
"I have flown in an airplane."
"I have forgiven you."
"I have seen you before."
"I have written a letter."

By using the words 'I have' you are informing someone of something you have possession of or have acquired.

Here are some examples:
"I have a cat."
"I have a nice car."
"I have a house."
"I have a computer."
"I have a headache."

You may hear the words 'cannot' and 'won't' used with 'I have.' By adding theseyou can express what you will not put up with or allow.

Here are some examples:
"I cannot have that behavior in my house."
"I cannot have you over tonight."
"I won't have anything to do with that."
"I won't have it any other way."

The word 'gonna' is incorrect grammatically. The equivalent in proper grammar would be 'going to.'  When using the word 'gonna' you are telling someone what you are planning to do at that moment or in the near future.

Here are some examples:
"I'm gonna have some coffee."
"I'm gonna go to work."
"I'm gonna eat some cake."
"I'm gonna send out my resume."
"I'm gonna run a marathon."
"I'm gonna ask her out for dinner."
"I'm gonna stop smoking."
"I'm gonna help my friends."
"I'm gonna take swim lessons."
"I'm gonna read a book."

I am trying' informs someone that you are attempting to accomplish somethingusing bodily, mental, or spiritual strength. By adding a verb to 'I'm trying' you are pointing out exactly what it is you are attempting to do.

Here are some examples:
"I'm trying to get a job."
"I'm trying to call my family."
"I'm trying to enjoy my dinner."
"I'm trying to educate myself."
"I'm trying to explain myself."
"I'm trying new food."
"I'm trying to eat healthy."
"I'm trying to understand."

You may also hear the word 'trying' used to express a way someone is feeling.  In this manner, it expresses strain or distress.
Here are some examples:
"Learning new things can be trying on you."
"That marathon was very trying on me."

When combining the words 'I am' and 'getting' you are telling someone 'you' aregaining possession, being affected by or have plans to seek out and obtain a particular thing.

Chapter-2 (Use of Is/Am/Are) Useful tips :

(i). Am का प्रयोग के साथ किया जाता है. जबकि isका प्रयोग singular subjects जैसेs & he, she, Ram, Sita, this, that आदि के साथ तथा are का प्रयोग plural subjects जैसेs & we, you, they, these, those आदि के साथ होता है.

(ii). I’m I am का संक्षिप्त रूप है जो कि बोलचाल में काफ़ी प्रचलित है. I’m के  समान ही अन्य संक्षिप्त रूपों का भी अभ्यास करें जैसेsa  & That is का संक्षिप्त रूप That’sShe is का संक्षिप्त रूप She’sHe isका संक्षिप्त रूप he’sWe are का संक्षिप्त रूपwe’reThey are का संक्षिप्त रूप They’re तथाYou are  का संक्षिप्त रूप you’re है.

(iii). Negative sentences बनाने के लिएis/are/am के बाद ‘not’ का प्रयोग किया जाता है.

(iv). Interrogative sentences बनाने के लिएis/are/am को वाक्य के शुरू में लगाया जाता है.

(Use of Is/Am/Are)  Interrogative Sentences (प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य)

क्या तुम एक अध्यापक हो?Are you a teacher?

क्या वह बैलगाड़ी है?Is that a bullock cart?

क्या यह तुम्हारा पेन है?Is this your pen?

क्या सुजीत एक लेखक है?Is Sujeet a writer?

क्या वह भूखी है?Is she hungry?

क्या तुम बीमार हो?Are you ill?

क्या वे सैनिक हैं?Are they soldiers?

क्या हम मजदूर हैं?Are we labourers?

क्या बक्सा भारी है?Is the box heavy?

क्या ये प्लेटें हैं?Are these dishes?

(Use of Is/Am/Are) Negative Sentences (नकारात्मक वाक्य)

मैं डॉक्टर नहीं हूँ.I’m not a doctor.

यह कार नहीं है.This is not a car.

यह साइकिल नहीं है.This is not a cycle.

वह मंदिर नहीं है.That’s not a temple.

तुम उदास नहीं हो.You’re not sad.

वे खुश नहीं हैं.They’re not happy.

हम विद्यार्थी नहीं हैं.We’re not students.

वे खिलाड़ी नहीं हैं.They’re not players.

यह मूर्ति नहीं है.This is not a statue.

ये बाल्टियाँ नहीं हैं.These are not buckets.

Chapter-2 (Use of Is/Am/Are)

अंग्रेजी भाषा में is/ am/ are का प्रयोग सबसे आसान वाक्य बनाने में किया जाता है. इन तीनों का प्रयोग वर्तमान काल में simple sentences बनाने में किया जाता है. इनका प्रयोग आसान भी है और उपयोगी भी. आइए इस प्रकार के वाक्यों का अभ्यास करें :

Affirmative Sentences (सकारात्मक वाक्य)

मैं एक डॉक्टर हूँ.I’m a doctor.

यह कार है.This is a car.

यह साइकिल है.This is a cycle.

वह मंदिर है.That’s a temple.

यह हमारी फैक्ट्री है.This is our factory.

उसका नाम पूजा है.Her name is Pooja.

यह मेरी चाची हैं.This is my aunt.

वह एक लड़का है.That’s a boy.

यह एक पेंसिल है.This is a pencil.

यह कुर्सी पुरानी है.This chair is old.

यह कलम है.This is a pen.

महेश मेरा मित्र है.Mahesh is my friend.

वह मेरी बहन है.She is my sister.

वह एक विद्यार्थी है.He’s a student.

ये मेरी गायें हैं.These are my cows.

ये मेरी बोतलें हैं.These are my bottles.

वह धोखेबाज़ है.He is a cheater.

वह ईमानदार लड़की है.She’s an honest girl.

वे मेरे रिश्तेदार हैं.They’re my relatives.

वह बदसूरत है.She’s ugly.

Chapter-1 Salutation (अभिवादन) part -3

Memorable Points:

1. याद रखिये अंग्रेजी में सभ्यता का बड़ा महत्व है.अंग्रेजी में बातचीत के दौरान दो शब्दों का बड़ा महत्व है & Sorry  और Please. ये दोनों शब्द इतने प्रचलित हो चुके हैं कि हर पढ़ा-लिखा व्यक्ति इनका प्रयोग करता है. आप भी बातचीत के दौरान इन शब्दों का खुलकर प्रयोग करें. इसमें हिचकिचाएँ नहीं.

About Sorry : Sorry कहने में कुछ लोग अपना अपमान महसूस करते हैं परन्तु आप ऐसा हरगिज़ न करें. अंग्रेजी में बहुत छोटी-छोटी गलतियों के लिए माफ़ी मांगने के लहजे में ‘सॉरी’  बोला जाता है. उदाहरण के लिए, यदि पार्टी में आपका हाथ किसी के हाथ से छू जाए तो आप तुरंत बोलेंगें- Sorry.यदि आप इसमें हिचकिचायेंगे तो आप असभ्य कहलायेंगे.

About Please :  इसी प्रकार Please शब्द का भी अपना अलग ही आकर्षण है. इसे बोलने का भी प्रयास करें. यदि आपको किसी से कोई वस्तु माँगनी हो, कुछ पूँछना हो, कोई आज्ञा माँगनी हो तोPlease का प्रयोग अवश्य करें. इस सम्बन्ध में निम्नलिखित उदाहरणों को पढ़ें और समझें:

क्या बजा है?What’s the time please?

क्या आप मुझे एक गिलास पानी देंगें?Will you please give me a glass of water?

क्या आप मुझे बोलने देंगे?Will you please let me speak?

लीजिये.Please help yourself.

कृपया शांत रहे.Please keep quiet.

आइए अब इन वाक्यों का अभ्यास करें :

1. नमस्कार मि. खन्ना! (शाम को 6 बजे)

Good evening Mr. Khanna!

2. नमस्ते पोते! (शाम को 3 बजे)

Good afternoon grandson!

3. नमस्ते रुचिजी! (सुबह 10 बजे)

Good morning Ma’am Ruchi!

4. नमस्ते बेटे! (दोपहर 1 बजे)

Good afternoon son!

5. शुभ रात्रि खुशबू!

Good night Khushboo!

6. कृपया बैठ जाइये.

Please have your seat.

7. क्या आप मुझे सोने देंगे?

Will you please let me sleep?

8. मुझे खेद है.

I’m sorry.

9. बुरा मत मानियेगा.

Please don’t mind.  

10. आपको बहुत-बहुत धन्यवाद.

Many-many thanks to you.

* ma’am madam का संक्षिप्त रूप है. आजकल मैडम न बोलकर प्राय: मैम ही बोला जाता है.

नमस्ते दादाजी!Good morning, grandpa!नमस्कार दुबेजी!Good morning, Mr. Dubey!

 * I’m sorry I am sorry का संक्षिप्त रूप है.

धन्यवाद.Thanks.
आपको धन्यवाद.Thank you.
माफ़ कीजिये.Excuse me.

* You’re you are का संक्षिप्त रूप है.

जैसा आप चाहें.         As you wish/ As you please.

प्रत्येक भाषा में अभिवादन का अपना महत्व है और प्रत्येक भाषा में इनका अलग-अलग तरीका है. अंग्रेजी भाषा में भी अभिवादन और शिष्टाचार का काफ़ी महत्व है. अंग्रेजी भाषा का अच्छा जानकार होने के लिए इन तौर-तरीकों का अभ्यास आवश्यक है. नीचे दिए गए उदाहरणों से आपको काफ़ी मदद मिलेगी.

 प्रात: काल से दोपहर 12 बजे तक

अगर आपको कोई प्रात: काल से दोपहर 12 बजे तक मिले या आप किसी के घर जाएँ या कोई आपके घर आये तो उससे नमस्ते या नमस्कार करने का तरीका इस प्रकार है.

दोपहर 12 बजे से शाम 5 बजे तक

अगर आपको कोई दोपहर 12 बजे से शाम 5 बजे तक मिले या आप किसी के घर जाएँ या कोई आपके घर आये तो उससे नमस्ते या नमस्कार करने का तरीका इस प्रकार है.

नमस्ते सर! Good afternoon, Sir!
नमस्ते बहन! Good afternoon, Sister!
नमस्ते बच्चों! Good afternoon, children!
नमस्ते मिसेज़ खन्ना! Good afternoon, Mrs. Khanna!
नमस्कार शोभितजी! Good afternoon, Mr.Shohit!

शाम 5 बजे के बाद

अगर आपको कोई शाम 5 बजे के बाद मिले या आप किसी के घर जाएँ या कोई आपके घर आये तो उससे नमस्ते या नमस्कार करने का तरीका इस प्रकार है.

नमस्ते माधव!Good evening, Madhav!
नमस्ते मेरे बेटे!Good evening, my dear son!नमस्ते दादाजी!Good evening, grandpa!
नमस्ते प्यारी बच्ची !Good evening, lovely girl!नमस्कार सुश्री नीना!Good evening, Miss. Neena!

 रात को विदाई के समय

शुभ रात्रि!Good night!  OR  Sweet dreams!शुभ रात्रि प्रिय!Good night dear!
शुभ रात्रि सीमा!Good night Seema!

ऊपर दिए गए वाक्य केवल अभिवादन सूचक हैं. अंग्रेजी भाषा में सामान्य व्यवहार के लिए आपको और भी बहुत से वाक्यों का प्रयोग करना पड़ता है. इनमें से कुछ उदाहरण नीचे दिए जा रहे हैं.
